At Ronald McDonald House Toronto, we see these rights in real time. When a child is facing a serious illness, their world can feel out of their control. In last week's Coffee Talk program families gathered to enjoy a special donation of books featuring …stories and authors from Nova Scotia, along with east coast treats like chocolate-covered potato chips and oven-baked cheese crisps.
Families were able to sit together, enjoy a snack, and listen to stories shared by our wonderful Coffee Talk volunteers. This was especially meaningful for families from the east coast, who had the chance to connect, share memories of home, and enjoy a familiar taste of comfort.
In Canada, 2 out of 3 families live outside a city with a specialty children’s hospital and must travel for medical treatment when their child becomes ill. Moments like our Coffee Talk program help families feel a sense of community while they’re far from home.
